A Weekend in Naples: 48-Hour Itinerary

Published on ยทby Cosmica Rentals Teamยท2 min read

Naples deserves a week, but if you only have a weekend, you can still experience its soul. This itinerary balances must-see landmarks with the local spots that make this city unforgettable.

Day 1 โ€” Morning: Historic Center

Start at Piazza del Gesu Nuovo and walk east along Spaccanapoli. Stop inside the Cappella Sansevero to see the Veiled Christ โ€” one of the most extraordinary sculptures ever made. Continue to Via dei Tribunali for your first Neapolitan pizza at Da Michele or Starita. Yes, the lines are worth it.

Day 1 โ€” Afternoon: Underground and Waterfront

Book a tour of Napoli Sotterranea (Underground Naples) to explore Greek-Roman tunnels forty meters below street level. Afterward, walk down to the Lungomare waterfront promenade. Stop at Castel dell'Ovo and watch the sun drop behind Capri.

Day 1 โ€” Evening: Quartieri Spagnoli

Head into the Spanish Quarters for dinner at a family-run trattoria. Order spaghetti alle vongole and a bottle of Greco di Tufo. The narrow alleys come alive after dark with conversation, music, and the smell of wood-fired ovens.

Day 2 โ€” Morning: Pompeii Day Trip

Take the Circumvesuviana train from Napoli Centrale to Pompeii Scavi (thirty-five minutes, under four euros). Arrive early to avoid crowds. Two to three hours is enough to see the Forum, the House of the Faun, and the Garden of the Fugitives. Bring water and sunscreen โ€” shade is limited.

Day 2 โ€” Afternoon: Vomero and Views

Back in Naples, ride the Centrale funicular up to Vomero. Walk to Castel Sant'Elmo for the best panorama of the city and bay. Then visit the Certosa di San Martino next door. On the way down, stop at a pasticceria for sfogliatella โ€” flaky pastry filled with ricotta and candied fruit.

Day 2 โ€” Evening: Final Feast

End your weekend at Borgo Marinari, the tiny fishing village beneath Castel dell'Ovo. Order a seafood platter, a cold beer, and watch the boats bob in the harbor as Naples lights up behind you.
