72 Hours in Dubai: The European Long-Weekend Itinerary

Pubblicato il ·di Cosmica Rentals Team·3 min read

Europeans now treat Dubai the way Americans treat Mexico: a 6-7 hour flight, no visa hassles, two days of sun in the middle of December and February. The trick is making a long weekend feel like a real trip without turning it into a sprint. Here is what actually works.

When Should I Go?

For Europeans, the value window is November to early April. Daytime highs of 22-28°C, evenings comfortable in light layers. May through September is brutal (40°C+) and most outdoor activity becomes impossible from 11:00 to 18:00.

How Long Should the Trip Be?

Minimum 3 nights to make jet lag survivable. Optimal 4-5 nights. Anything under 3 nights is a flying visit you will regret.

The 72-Hour Itinerary

Day 1 (Friday) — Arrive and Decompress

Land in the morning, taxi or metro to your apartment, check in, shower. Have lunch in your neighborhood and walk it off. Sunset at the Burj Khalifa observation deck (book online 2 weeks ahead — tickets sell out for sunset slots). Dinner near Dubai Mall and bed by 22:30.

Day 2 (Saturday) — City and Beach

Morning at JBR Beach or Kite Beach (sun, swim, coffee). Afternoon at the Dubai Marina walk and a sundowner at Pier 7. If you have energy, evening dhow cruise on the marina (~AED 250 with dinner, touristy but easy).

Day 3 (Sunday) — Desert

Book a desert safari (pickup around 14:00). Dune bashing, camel ride, sunset photos, dinner at the camp. You are back at your apartment by 22:00. This is the experience non-Dubai-residents always remember.

Day 4 (Monday) — Old Dubai + Departure

Morning visit to Al Fahidi historic district and the Gold Souk in Deira (water taxi across the creek, ~AED 1). Lunch at a Pakistani or Iranian place in Bur Dubai. Back to apartment, pack, head to airport.

Where Should I Stay?

  • Dubai Marina / JBR — beach, restaurants, walkable. Best for first-time visitors.
  • Downtown / Business Bay — central, Burj Khalifa views, more business vibe.
  • Palm Jumeirah — pure beach holiday energy, but car-dependent.

Browse our Dubai apartments — Marina and Downtown have the best long-weekend balance.

How Do I Beat Jet Lag for a Short Trip?

  • Pick a morning-arrival flight (most European departures are evening, landing 06:00-08:00 Dubai time)
  • Stay outdoors in natural light all of day 1
  • Avoid napping until at least 20:00 local time
  • Set a hard bedtime alarm for day 1 night — even if you feel fine

What Should I Pack?

  • Light layers for evenings (December-February it gets cool at night, 14-18°C)
  • Comfortable walking shoes — Dubai is much more walkable than people expect, but in distinct neighborhoods
  • Modest swimsuit option (some beach clubs are conservative, hotel pools generally not)
  • An empty suitcase if you plan to do any serious shopping

How Much Should a 72-Hour Trip Cost?

For a couple, mid-range, including flights from Western Europe:

  • Flights (round trip per person): €280-500
  • Apartment (3 nights): €450-700 (Cosmica direct rate)
  • Food and drinks: €60-90/day per person
  • Desert safari: AED 250-400/person
  • Misc transport (metro + taxis): €40-60 total

Total per person, all-in: €800-1,400.

The Single Mistake to Avoid

Do not stay in a hotel near the airport to save money. The taxi savings disappear after one round trip to the Marina, and you waste your two real days commuting. Stay where you want to be.
