Christmas in Naples is about the old city: the nativity workshops of Via San Gregorio Armeno, church-filled streets and Christmas sweets. For an apartment, choose Centro Storico to walk out into it, Chiaia for a calmer base, or Vomero for quiet, and check availability for your exact dates.

This guide is editorial. The city's official Christmas programme for 2026 was not published on the pages we could find on 7 October 2026, so we do not list dates of lights, markets or concerts: check the Comune di Napoli and the tourism pages of the Campania region in the weeks before you travel.

The calendar days to know

In Italy, 8 December (Immacolata Concezione), 25 and 26 December and 6 January (Epifania) are public holidays, and 24 December and New Year's Eve are traditional days for family meals and gatherings. Expect the old centre to be busy around these dates, and many families to travel at the same time.

What to see

Via San Gregorio Armeno

This narrow street in the historic centre is known for the workshops that make nativity scene figures. In the Christmas season it becomes one of the most visited streets in the city. Go early in the day if you want room to walk.

The old city on foot

Spaccanapoli, Via dei Tribunali, the Duomo and the churches of the historic centre are all close together, which is why the Centro Storico is the natural base for a Christmas trip. For a list of other places, read our local guide to Naples and the 48-hour itinerary.

What to eat

Traditional Neapolitan Christmas sweets include struffoli (small fried dough balls with honey), roccocò and mostaccioli (spiced biscuits). On Christmas Eve, many families traditionally eat fish, including fried salt cod. Restaurants that serve a set Christmas Eve menu usually need a booking: ask when you book your stay.
